“Mr. Luby and his team had the contract for painting and decorating our 140 year old stone cottage. There was the need to finish by Xmas and the added urgency of readying the house for a wedding reception in the first week of the New Year. Despite a start delayed by the building contractor, Jonathan and his team pulled out all stops and did a magnificent job, having everything ready in time.”An extra challenge was a limestone wall that had been painted with a 1950’s pale green paint. Rather than using expensive and messy high pressure water jets, Jonathan painted the wall a lime render colour and then highlighted and coloured the individual stones so that the wall became indistinguishable from its non painted neighbour. He also rose to the challenge of restoring a formal sitting room,the walls of which were papered with a collage of cut-outs from 1910 era news magazines. The flour and water glue had been attacked by silver fish and there were bad cracks in the underlying plaster. Jonathan replaced the worst damaged prints with archival pictures downloaded from the Internet and disguised lesser damaged areas with neutral “touch-up” paint, achieving an excellent result.
Clearly, Jonathan Luby is no ordinary housepainter but a true master in his field. We are delighted to commend his work.

“In 2003 we engaged Jonathan Luby to undertake the internal and external repainting of our large 19th century house as part of extensive renovations.The scope of the work was unpredictable as the walls had originally been painted with calcimine, and decades of subsequent paint layers had to be removed and the calcimine washed off and sealed before the finishing coats could be applied.
Jonathan prepared all the surfaces he worked on with utmost care and thoroughness. He then used a variety of paint techniques and finishes, some of them quite complicated to achieve the richness and depth of colour and texture we wanted. He was willing to experiment with new ideas and make them work, drawing on has extensive experience with decorative paint finishes. He has an exceptional understanding of colour and was willing to create the colours and finishes we envisaged even though it sometimes meant painting a large number of large samples.
Jonathan’s workmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. Due to the size of our job it was necessary for him to employ other painters to help with the work, and his team was dedicated, competent, amenable and justly proud of their work.
